So very grateful to the Lord for bringing Cathryn into my life. What started as a professional relationship quickly turned into sisters in Christ praying for each other and sharing our hearts. Your absolute trust and faith in God’s sovereignty and His plan for you was such a blessing and example to me. You never gave up. I’m so grateful for our times of laughter and our couple of sweet night/ days out together enjoying fun music! I picture you sitting at the feet of Jesus, soaking in His love for you and feasting on all the delicious things. I love you, sister, and always will.
Ryn,
I was your nurse at one point & you were such an absolute pleasure to meet! Im so glad i was finally able to find your website we talked about! i was having a rough shift but your compliments and our convos about your book made it so much better. I love how gentle and sweet you are to staff! & Its so nice to know staff is one your biggest fans!! Have an absolute wonderful life, like you deserve, you little angel.
Cathryn,
I continue to remember the fun times we had at Joni and Friends at Mission Springs. Benjamin and I treasure the memories that we shared with you. I am having difficulties pasting some of my photos I want to share so you will just have to remember. Do you remember the time that we took a photo with a fern background. Your dad could not believe that you were still in your wheelchair. I loved sending that photo home with you and your dad.
Dear Ryn,
I just finished reading my book tonight that you signed for me at your book signing. I’m in California and we met at JAF Camp years ago. I’m Sheila, my daughter is “Char” (she has MS) and her daughter is Meg Mannering. We still remember you dancing on stage with beautiful colorful streamer type ribbons. Also, we remember you dancing with your Dad on stage, so beautiful the way you danced.
I read your book every night before going to sleep and had a hard time putting it down. Eventually I wasn’t able to read it as often, however, I was always anxious to get to it. You have reached your writing goal. Your story did carry the truths the Holy Spirit gave you. I have dog eared at least 7 pages of truth which I will read again and again. While reading you helped me, reminding me to go to God first about everything. You captured a flavor of his lavishing love, his provision, his faithfulness, his kindness, his masterplan that we don’t understand, however, we put our trust in him. Dearest Ryn, thank you for pouring yourself and your truths into this timeless work. I am grateful and will share it gladly. Looking forward to seeing you in Heaven.
Cathryn,
I am really looking forward to reading your book! How cool to have written and published one! You are an amazing lady and I have always admired your grit and grin! You have accomplished so much in this life, in spite of the many constant challenges, and with such a great attitude and heart for the Lord. You are truly an inspiration and it’s a blessing to see all of the lives you have touched. I’m sure you will see and meet many more when you reach heaven, when Jesus picks you up and gives you a ride home, on his wings- that’s Avery’s description of how it works. And Maybe it is.
I’m looking forward to a heavenly family reunion and I have to admit, I’m a little jealous you get to see Grandma (and Jesus!) soon. I’ll bring the trail mix!
“Splendor and majesty are before the Lord; strength and joy are in his dwelling place.” 1 Chronicles 16:27
Much love, Hannah
Dearest Ryn,
Our visits these past few years have been such a highlight for me. With you, I can talk freely about my intense love for Star Wars and be met with an equal amount of enthusiasm and passion. I remember you dressed up as Rey at JAF one year and I knew you were a kindred spirit(; Also, to have a friend with a shared love for Jane Austen—particularly Pride and Prejuduce—as well as LOTR is truly a sweet thing. Most of all, I’m grateful that I have a beautiful sister in Christ with whom I can give and receive prayer requests and discuss the things of the Spirit. I praise God so deeply for your faith that points me to and reminds me of God’s grace, love and sovereignty. Oh Ryn—you are a joy and I thank God for you in my life.
Love,
Tabitha
P.S. Thanks for always letting me horse around with your amazing sword collection!!!
Ryn, thank you for all that you are and have been to those around you. Your personality outshines so much in this world and I’m so glad to have gotten to know you throughout the years and how much you’ve meant to Chad and I and the whole family. Those Disney AT nights always hold a special place in my heart with your family playing live music and the smile on everyone’s faces. Going to the celtic faire throughout the years with you has and always will be an awesome and joyous adventures that will live on. Your smile and personality was always so joyous and infectious. You always rocked your celtic outfit and I loved that you would visit all the way from home to go to the faire with us, and as always so incredibly grateful for the gifts you’d share with everyone whether it was Christmas or my birthday. You’re a beautiful friend with a beautiful personality which is so rare to see and find in someone, thank you for sharing who you are and what you have and always will bless us with. Your creativity is awesome as well and I’m so happy for you and your book and all that there is to share with it and your message. Thank you for being an inspiration to me, to Chad and my family, and to those all around you, always being a bright light and showing everyone your love. Love now and always
Dear Ryn,
Although I haven’t known you very long or very well, it has been a blessing to see your faith remain steadfast in God in the midst of difficult times. Your faith in God and faithfulness in prayer for people you love have touched me. I’m thankful we got to meet on Zoom Bible studies and in person at your birthday party at the Menges’ house a couple years ago. 🙂 I am praying for you and your family for strength and peace in God during this time. Thank you for shining Jesus’ light to the people around you. You have touched my life, and I am thankful we met.
Love,
Shannon McRoberts
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” – 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
Hi Cathryn,
Watching you become the beautiful and Godly young woman you are today has been an inspiration. I think my favorite memory is watching you dance with your dad to the beautiful song he wrote for you, “She Likes to Dance.”
May God continue to bless you.
With love,
Jeff
Cathryn,
I have wonderful memories of dancing with you at the camp talent show, but even better are the memories of us trying to come up with the dance we did. I was so blessed to be your STM not just one year but two! We had such a great time together. You are an inspiration to so many and I am grateful to have known you. Sending many hugs and prayers for peace to you and your family.
Cathryn, we just want you to know how thankful we are for your life. We have always thought of you as a Missionary. Because of your AT, your mission field was to the medical profession, and what a blessing you have been to so many as you shared your love of Jesus with them all.
I (Nancy) have always enjoyed the fact that we share the same birthday… just a LOT of years apart! 🙂
May the Joy of the Lord be your strength each day!
Dear Cath”Ryn”,
Memories I have of you are as a beautiful, strong little girl. Full of life. One that navigates life in grace. Watching you grow from afar, through pictures, I see you have grown more beautiful in your inward strength – Jesus. Your mounting trust and faith in God have encouraged me and my family in our own faith walk over the years. I still have your picture on my refrigerator that reminds me to continue to pray for you.
I thank God for you Ryn.! You are special. Chosen for a unique purpose. Blessed.
P.S. Congratulations on your book release! I will be ordering my copy soon. Thank you for sharing your life with the world💖
In Christ’s love and gratitude,
Jo Cameron
Ryn, I have admired your quiet perseverance in the middle of the storm. Love you.
Ryn, your quiet strength and deep love for Jesus despite earthly circumstances has always blessed me! Jesus shines brightly in you.💕
I will always remember you hugs. Strong and purposeful and long!
Dear Ryn,
When I first meet you at JAF Camp so many years ago, I remember how friendly and gentle you were and continue to be whenever I see you. You have great creativity and a beautiful voice to match singing for the Lord. And did I mention, I look forward to your talent show act every summer! You are a shining light and an inspiration to me🥰🙏
Dear Cathryn,
I am so grateful that you have been in my life. From my earliest memories of you there has always been your smile. I’m sure there have been days when you didn’t feel like smiling. People think that I always smile too – but I have my days. Even so, as your life’s journey progressed it could have been easy at times to stop smiling. But you didn’t. You haven’t stopped demonstrating the joy of the Lord and reflecting the beauty of his nature.
You also have not stopped noticing people. You could have turned inward and worried only about yourself but you have not. You have always been interested in others, caring about others. Your tenderness to others is, I believe, a direct result of your tender heart to the Lord. His grace and power is so evident in your life, in your creations, in your words, in your eyes and smile.
It is a treasure to me to be known and loved by you. To get to follow the life and testimony of once the sweetest little blonde girl full of giggles and sparkle, now a beautiful blonde woman of grace and depth and creativity. And still a little sparkle.
I send you my love Cathryn. And to your momma too of course. You both are deserving of praise and honor of the highest. I am always praying for you both. That miracles and the power of the Lord would abound.
Ryn,
I met you through JAF family retreat several years back and I am ever so thankful the Lord allowed our paths to cross. It was truly such a joy to get to know you… As others have shared, your love for Jesus shines so brightly for all to see. You are incredibly talented and creative, have the kindest heart and the most beautiful smile. Thank you so much for being a faithful follower of Christ and allowing Him to use you to bring Him glory. You’re an inspiration to me, my friend, and you are dearly loved!
Rynnie Rae! You are such a beautiful joy! I am so blessed to know you. I was just thinking about you and our adventure at the Ren Faire. I loved being Princess Buttercup’s maid-in-waiting. Praying for you and love you dear friend!
– Talia ⚔️❤️⭐️
Oh My Dear Ryn, it’s difficult to even find a way to put all of my thoughts together! The very first year that I came to camp(2004), in the Talent Show, Josh Krebs lifted you up onto his shoulders in a performance to the song, “You Raise Me Up”. I sat and wept. That was a week that I knew would forever change my life. The very next day after I got home, I ran into a Target store and guess what song came on??? I was a blubbering mess again, right there in Target. And to this day, I can’t listen to that song without thinking of you. Throughout the years I’ve had the privilege of observing you, often from a distance while running around like a crazy person at camps, sometimes up close like in the hospital or even in my own home and I’ve seen your deep and steady faith growing throughout the years. And recently, as I opened the pages of your book, “A Miracle in Mellyndale,” I’ve felt as though I’m now seeing you in such a more in depth and personal way. I feel as though the filters have been removed from my eyes- it’s as though I’m seeing you so much more clearly. I don’t see AT- I see you, the real you. As I’m reading the written words, I’m seeing your incredible mind, putting together this beautiful tale, one in which you have lept out of that wheelchair and thrown yourself onto its pages. I’m so enjoying getting to know you even better through your writing! I’ve been praying for you recently as I’ve noticed some changes in your appearance and wondered how you’re doing but you know what I’ve noticed the most? The smiles, I’ve seen more smiles than I’ve ever seen! Not only on your face but I’ve seen them in the depth of your eyes. You amaze me young lady, one who is so wise beyond her years… What a blessing it is to have known you and loved you. My life definitely did change that first week at camp- when I experienced firsthand the gifts and abilities and the FAITH of so many campers surrounding me, I finally found something that was fulfilling- I found the path that God had chosen for me. And I’ll never forget how in one of the best talent shows I’d ever seen, he used his little princess being raised up onto a young man’s shoulders, to show me that path. I love you, my friend.
Ryn,
How thankful and blessed David and i were to have met you , and your mom and dad at Joni and Friends family retreat . You are beautful woman of God , your faith and deep love for Jesus shines through you .
“ No eye has seen , no ear has heard , no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him . “
We love you and are praying for you .
Ryn,
My star wars sister! when I think of you, I think of how you display God’s glory in your weakness. He shines so brilliantly in your life. The refinement the Lord has done in your heart, as you rely on Him for everything, has been such a testimony of His goodness in your life.
I know you would say it’s the Lord’s work, and it is, but it also reveals your obedience and clinging to Jesus with all you are.
love you and I’m so grateful for you!
hey ryn,
as i wait for your book to arrive (three more days!), i have been thinking about what to say here. this is what i know: you and i share a love of three things. those being, our Lord Jesus, your mom, and ‘star wars’. i have many memories of your childhood which i cherish dearly, and i felt like i was on the inside for some things (like your diagnostic trip to baltimore) because of my mama (nanny). is there any chance you remember me driving your dad’s fairlane down the hill from our house in cienega to yours? pretty sure you, crystal, and rob were all in the car, but i can’t remember car seats . . . haha!
i remember hypothesizing that little-girl-you could possibly see angels because your faith has been so incredibly strong from the earliest of days. you have been unwavering in your faith in Jesus and nothing in your life shines brighter.
we have had some wonderful adventures; i’m thankful to have experienced yosemite with you, as well as many other parts of california. thank you for always including me in your special occasions and faithfully attending mine! thank you so much for the quilt on our couch which we use daily and the one you made jude! you’ve always been an artist.
thank you for sharing an enduring love of ‘star wars’ with me and the messages back and forth on that note.
when you finally see Jesus face to face, when you finally run into His open arms, when you fall at His feet, ryn, we will rejoice with you. you have lived faithfully for Him. you have proclaimed His goodness in the land. you have, without a doubt, FOUGHT the good fight.
i love you!
Dear Ryn,
I remember the time staying with you when your parent wee gone. It was a joy to be with you. As I have seen you grow over the years in your faith and love for others and your precious family thru your mother’s eyes, it has given me joy in our Lord knowing the gifts you have been given.
I know you know God’s peace, love and hope each day.
Love to you and your family and prayers
Hi Ryn!
Theresa and I have been longtime friends of your mom and dad, and have chatted with you several times. You may not remember us, but we remember you, and have prayed for you often!
Once your dad asked me if I would like to run a half marathon to benefit AT. It was at Disneyland, and I was way out of shape, but trained for weeks and weeks to be able to run. I’m not a good runner at all. Your dad is a great runner!
Oh, but out of love for your family, and inspired by your strength, I ran, the 12.6 miles that day. You and your family have fought an amazing fight to have a great quality of life in spite of your challenges!
And while we all love this life, we also know that the best, the very best is yet to come! We love you, and are praying for you and your family!
Ryn, you are one amazing lady! You have stayed faithful to God and are an inspiration to all of us. Thank you for blessing us to pieces!! We love you so much. Looking forward to dancing with you in heaven someday. Oxox Irene
Dear Ryn,
I just finished your book, after years of being excited for it to arrive. It is an enormously moving story, so detailed with beautiful descriptions and insights. I knew it would be, as my daughter has been a close friend of yours during the process of bringing your story to life.
Sarah and I are so very blessed and amazed to have followed your journey over the past several years. You are a genuine inspiration and example of the strength and Grace only God can provide. Thank you for this important gift.
May His light continue to shine upon you✨💎🗝️
Hi, Cathryn!
I loved watching the video of the collection of pictures here and seeing your beautiful smile and fun loving spirit! It’s been far too long since I’ve gotten to see your smile in person.
When I think of all the time I spent in my childhood with you and your family, I feel so grateful to have been a part of it. There are so many precious memories. For some reason, one of the memories that’s coming up is of your room being an absolute disaster zone (as most kids rooms are, let’s be real! Haha), and Crystal and I trying to help clean it up because your mom was going to put un-picked-up toys in the attic if they weren’t cleaned up within a certain time frame. I don’t know if we were successful or not… Haha
I know we haven’t seen much of each other in your adult years, but I want to say how your love and faith shine through so bright even through online platforms. You have never shied away from sharing about Jesus with people and spreading His love through your kindness and openness. I can see His strength shining through you in all you do and say. And even with all the difficulty you have faced in life, His joy is so evident in you! You are radiant because of Christ in you!
I love seeing, also, how you dive into your interests and passions with such a love for life! Your many creative projects and cool costumes never cease to amaze me! I recently bought your book that you just released on Amazon, but I haven’t been able to read it yet, since life has been a bit crazy recently. But I am looking forward to reading it soon! I’ve heard such amazing things about it!
I don’t know what else to say that hasn’t been said, but I guess I just want to say what an honor it has been to know you, Cathryn! Whenever your time does come, I will take comfort in knowing that you will finally be free from all physical limitations, and that you will be in the presence of our beautiful Savior! But until that day, keep shining His light in this dark world that’s so in need of hope!
Ryn! My nerdy, punny, beautiful, talented, AUTHOR friend! It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly 20 years since that first time together at JAF. Since then, we’ve had so many memories together and I’m pretty sure I’d hit the character limit on this if I tried to list them all. So some highlights: JAF – dancing in the talent shows, hanging out, meandering around camp, talking, laughing, playing games, and just being friends. The Celtic Faire where you looked stunning as Princess Buttercup. Every time we’ve gotten to dance together – at JAF, the dance recital, parties, and Anne’s wedding.
Our “fairy good day” at Color Me Mine where we painted our matching figurines. And SO much more.
You live your life for an audience of One and I have always appreciated and admired that. Every time we interact, you point me to Jesus and that’s one of my favorite things about you. Getting to be a part of Bible study with you via Zoom really showed me your heart for the Lord and for those in your life and I will be forever grateful for that insight. I love you, my long-term sister!
Dear Ryn,
Most young women (i.e. social media “influencers”) strive to curate images of beauty, glamour and self-confidence… while struggling deeply with insecurity and self-worth. Meanwhile, you have persevered –and been more than a conqueror– through more hardships than most adults twice your age. Through it all, your hope and faith been a miracle and marvel to behold. You are indeed a wildly gifted artist and (two-time!) author. But to me, your witness has been the greatest masterpiece and triumph.
For the last week, the media has been fixated on a revival at a college on the other side of the country: “Is this real? What does this mean?” Meanwhile, for 31 years, Ryn Achilles has been walking (then rolling 🙂) out her faith: quietly and humbly, with undeniable and supernatural strength.
I know you credit Jesus. But you have been the one to choose submitting to God’s plans: How He purposes to sustain and demonstrate His grace through you. Thank you for demonstrating what joyful surrender looks like in this day and age. Thank you for your eternal influence. Your life should be all the signs and wonders anyone needs to know Jesus is real, and very real in you.
With much love and prayers,
Diane
Ryn,
There really are no words I can say that you don’t know or haven’t heard. There is no comfort I can add that you haven’t already experienced.
I have watched (even from a distance) as you have grown in the Lord and accepted the physical limitations of your body. You are truly an amazing young woman and have blessed so many by your grace and testimony.
Know that you are loved by so many, including us. You will never be forgotten and will leave a legacy that so many of us can only aspire to.
Ryn, I signed up to run the Disneyland Marathon in honor of A-T and was placed to sponsor another member. I had read your publication and saw you in the ballroom. Heard you & your family and saw your infectious smile. I HAD to meet you! I met your mom and then you. Immediately got switched to run for you.
You are an angel! Infectious, bright and so contagious. Your strength is amazing and your family beautiful.
I have memories of you through the years and you ALWAYS make me smile.
God bless you!
My Dearest Cathryn-Ryn – I know you always like Ryn better, but Princess Cathryn always sounds so special to me! The relationship with our families goes far back to when you “kids” were small. As we all grew to together in a beautiful friendship, it’s been SO fun, special, wonderful, exciting, a blast – to share in Star Wars, LOTR, Narnia, lovely weapons & decor, music and imagination! I love that it’s been too many Celtic Faires to remember, along with Rend Collective and Lindsey Sterling! So fun having St. Patrick’s Feast up here at the house and riding Chad’s quad! I love the friend you’ve been to Chad, Jeremy, and Jesse and all the FUN gifts through the many years. And….getting Joni ET to message Chad! I’m so thankful for you, my special friend and really with all these boys, a precious “daughter” to me. I love having all these fun things to share in, especially our faith and for YOUR encouragement! I know like Chad mentioned to you, our path WILL meet again in the heavenly realms, but in the meantime, let’s continue to keep in touch! I wanted to post a bunch of cool pics, but can’t seem to make it work. *Love you MUCH* ~ Louise
To “my angel” – People may think your are finishing your destiny, but I know you are not! Your are simply being transformed into your ethereal form as a Princess of the the Most High! You and I share an infinite love of all things Celtic and magical!! Your craftsmanship and art – – – will always be treasured in my heart. You remain forever and always in spirit, my one “TWUU WUV”. I know “the journey doesn’t end here, it’s just another path, one that we all must take.” Until our paths meet again my sister, LOVE, CHAD
Chad, It’s wonderful to hear from you. I hope you’re doing well. Thank you for your kind words. I WUV you, too!
Throughout my growing up, I have always wanted an older brother. Now I think God has blessed me with more brothers than I could ask for. I thank God for you.
I do not think God wants to call me home right away, either. Like you already reminded me “God’s not done with me yet”. Only HE knows when He will call me home.
I hope you get a chance for someone to read you my book. God bless you, my brother. I wish I could see you, also. You are always in my thoughts and prayers.
Love,
Ryn
Cathryn, I cannot think of JAF camp and not think of your smile. You were so welcoming when our family was new to camp. Our oldest daughter, Hannah Rue, who was four at the time, loved talking with you. As we’ve gotten to know you through camp each year, it is clear how much you love Jesus. Praying for you as you await going home to be with Jesus where you’ll dance and worship for eternity.
Dear Ryn,
You are an inspiration. Thank you for the impact you have made on every person you have met. Thank you for sharing your testimony, faith and deep love for Jesus. You are a joy to be around and your hugs are the best I have ever experienced. I love you.
Hi Ryn! I just love your creativity, compassion, and sense of humor. You are such a joy to be around and a great inspiration. I’ve enjoyed playing games with you and going to the Celtic Fair and seeing you play “The Invention” in Beauty and the Beast and have had several great conversations that always make me go deeper. I ordered and received your book the other day and can’t wait to dive in to it. I got a few pages in to the prologue and am already intrigued! I know you put a lot of time into this masterpiece and I am sure the Lord is going to use it to bless many!! Love to you my friend!
Blessings, Cindy
i know we never really got to know each other, but it always made me smile to see you at camp. i can’t wait to read your book 💛
Dear Ryn,
It’s been such a blessing to get to know you recently through our ladies’ Bible study and helping with your book. The way you consistently desire to honor the Lord and point others to Him is a beautiful and precious thing. I’m praying that you are surrounded with the peace that only He can give in these days.
Dearest Ryn ~ We have been so blessed by your friendship for over 20 years! We have so many special memories with your family: movies, shows and meals together, birthdays celebrated – your 21st, the one at the Tech, your 30th, visits in Hollister, Wheatland and Medford, our times at JAF family retreats from when you and Anna were little girls through last year, dancing with Anna and with the other girls at the JAF talent shows – we are grateful for all our times together! Thank you for letting others see Jesus in you, for writing honestly about the challenges you have faced and for your great hugs! We are praying for you and love you so much!
Ryn! Your friendship has been such a blessing to me over the years we’ve known each other! I love all the time I get to spend with you, I cannot pick a single favorite memory. From when we first met at Joni and Friends, to when you first moved to Medford and we had an impromptu birthday dinner (if I remember correctly we ate sandwiches), making cinnamon rolls together, many meals in and out, when I stayed the night with you and you introduced me to Binging with Babish (I still love that!), haha even when your mom and you went to visit Crystal and Gemma and I housesat for you that one early morning when Shadow started barking and freaked me out so I slept under your magnificent sword collection so I had my choice of weapon for any intruders and my first thought was how am I going to explain to Ryn I got blood on her swords?! 🤣
Your smile lights up the room and your sense of humor is fabulous! I cherish all the time we have spent together and hugs! Oh those wonderful hugs! I am blessed to have you so close to have been able to stock up on those hugs to tide me over for when we meet again (and I will continue doing so anytime I get to see you) in eternity with our Savior 😀
Love you so very much Ryn
❤️
Dear Ryn,
It’s been a while! I was thinking about you a few days ago while I was sewing together some costumes for students. It was such a joy to sew with you! You are very talented and I look forward to reading your book as well. You’re an artist and such an example to others!
Cathryn my sweet girl, you have been a picture of joy in the midst of suffering, perseverance, accepting with grace what God has allowed. You are an artist, a seamstress, a designer, a joyful creative. I have loved your mother’s devotion to your care and well-being and the friends who have been missional in serving you. And why do they come…because you have a grace about you that welcomes their friendship. I have.especially loved seeing your generosity as you use your quilting skills to bless others. You loved deeply my friend by those near and far.❤️❤️❤️❤️helen c.
Ryn,
It’s been a while since I’ve seen you, but I always remember your smile. It lights up a room and brings joy to those around you. Even in the midst of your pain, please know that your smile is a gift that you give to the world.
I will always remember the quilt you made for Melody. Each stitch is a testament to your creativity and perseverance. The quilts you have made are not only beautiful, but also a reflection of the love and care you put into each one.
You are so much like Anne of Green Gables who I know you admire. Anne’s resilience and determination in the face of adversity is a reflection of your own spirit. You have faced many challenges with grace and courage, and I know that you will continue to do so.
Please know that you are loved and cherished, and that your life has made a difference in the lives of those around you. I pray that your faith in Jesus is a constant source of comfort and strength for you.
Much love,
Laura
Kat was always a sweet and beautiful girl. She was in my Sunday School class for a few years but her and her family were always close to ours. Victoria always enjoyed when Kat would come over and play, always a bright and fun girl. I had a time when I was traveling some and I’d try and remember to get her one of the stuffed animals that she liked. One time I brought her a stuffed kitty from Dallas, she named it Alice from Dallas hahaha. My favorite memory though was when Kat and her family came to Victoria’s wedding her in Oregon and she enjoyed dancing around with her Dad and Victoria. Her courage and faith through all of this is an inspiration to me, it always has been and my hope Kat is that you will continue to show God’s love and light for every hour that you are still with us. Love, Rick
Dearest Ryn,
I’ve been mulling over what to say for hours! You have so many beautiful attributes and are such a lovely woman of God and a true inspiration! I am so blessed to know you!
My memories of you mostly consist of our conversations and your AMAZING hugs at JAF! Your smile brightens up a room and you carry yourself with much grace! I also loved watching you dance at JAF during the talent show. You are so incredibly strong and have persevered through things most people never will!
You have fought such a good fight and if I don’t see you again here on earth I know I will see you again in heaven where we can worship our Lord and Savior together! I smile now as I think of you dancing through the gates of heaven excited to worship the Lord for the rest of eternity! I grieve now because I will miss you BUT I rejoice because I know where you are going, and I will see you again someday!
Love you sweet sister ❤️
Miss Ryn, it’s been many years since I’ve seen you, but I’ve followed your journey as it so many times paralleled my Madi’s journey. Your faith is an inspiration. Your life has impacted countless others. Our Lord has used you in ways only the greatly humble can be used. What an amazingly purposed life! I am grateful for you, for your story, for your life, for your dependency on our Great God. You are so loved. You remain in our prayers and our hearts, and we celebrate God’s plans for you. Much love, Miss Ryn, and thank you for giving so much of yourself and sharing your faith with us.
Sweet Cathryn, we havnt seen you in years but so thankful for the opportunity to follow you for these past years and all amazing accomplishments!! Cathryn,
I don’t know that we ever met more than briefly, but through your sister, your example of love and faith was a profound impact on me in high school and college. Thank you for sharing your light with the world so graciously and demonstrating the fullness of the Lord.
Much love, Natalie
I was awestruck my very first time at family retreat in 2016, when I watched you dance in the talent show. Tears streaming down my face I remember thanking God for His goodness in creating such a beautiful young woman ❤️
Dearest Ryn,
I don’t know if you know how much you have meant to me over the years. That first year we came to camp I was just excited to meet the Fairfield’s friend 😊, but I quickly came to love you so much. You have encouraged me through your steadfast faith, your beautiful smile and the best hugs in the world. I am so thankful for the times we got to sit, chat and pray together and even the times we just sat in silence. There was even that one time at retreat when you made me sit down in front of you and you gave me the best back rub ever! I am so thankful for your presence in my life and for every moment we got to spend together.
Love you, my sweet friend.
I have so many favorite memories of Ryn. Ryn, your big smile at Joni and Friends Retreats. Ryn your big hugs! The twinkle in your eyes! I especially liked when you & your mom would stay at my house before camp or while visiting your sister & brother-in-law, so we could see more of you & your mom. Thanks for returning the hospitality in OR and introducing your pets & showing me your collections. You are someone I admire greatly who probably has had a greater impact on this world than you know. It doesn’t take a loud voice to make a big impact as evidenced by those who love you of whom I am one. 💕💕💕💕💕💕
Ryn, it’s hard to pick a favorite memory but for me it is anytime I’ve been able to see you dance! Your grace, beauty and humor have brought so much joy to me! I love seeing your faith and my faith has been strengthened by knowing you! I love you and miss you and you are in my constant prayers!
Ryn,
you are truly my sister! It was pure joy to be each others STM at Twin Rocks! We both know that this is not our permanent home and I look forward to spending eternity with my sister and all our family ❤️. I will keep running my race; trying to follow your example until the Good Lord calls me home. I know God is holding an extra place of honor for you because He is so clearly seen through your every word and deed. Much love my dear friend ❤️
I don’t know how to share pictures here, but if I did, I would share all the ones where you give me sassy looks because I’m taking your picture *again*. Love you much, Ryn. ❤️❤️❤️
Once upon a time this beautiful young woman came to our church, a “friend of friends”. And over time, I have been blessed to move from being a “friend of friends” – to enjoying a real friendship with you. Seeing you at church became seeing you at camp. And seeing you at camp became stealing you for that one glorious trip to the Mall where we talked and shopped. It was impossible to leave for new adventures in Ohio – without first making a mad dash to see you, getting an amazing “til we meet again” hug that would have to last me until … someday. And now it seems as if I’ll see you again in an eternal day, when we can hug at the same height and with the same strength. I’d give a good limb to be able to come hug you one more time here. But since I can’t, I’ll sit down and read your book a few times – and likely a few times more. I’ll sit and think about your sword collection and your sharp wit and brilliant humor and I’ll love you from way over here in Ohio.
Sweet Cathryn,
I am so thankful that the Lord brought our paths together. You are a true friend and a shining light for Jesus. You have pointed so many people to Him. I admire your strength , sense of humor and faith. And your creativity! From your beautiful quilts, artwork and now your book (I just got my copy and can’t wait to read it!). Curtis and I love you Ryn, and we are sending you big hugs and prayers. 💜
Ryn, I met your dad first, when he joined the team and Bear River in Wheatland. I met you later when I got to be a part of The Seasons of Giving show. My favorite moment was when you corrected us on how to pronounce the disease! I loved your spunk. Although we never really got to know each other, we have a lot in common. We both love cats, sewing/crafting, writing, and hobbies in general. Your wonderful spirit is such an inspriation to all who have been blessed to know you. Love to you and your wonderful family.
Hi Cathryn,
I don’t actually know you very well, but we certainly lived in adjacent circles, so to speak. 🙂 I’ve somewhat kept up with your life through either your mom or sister’s FB posts and updates… and while I would overall say we don’t really personally know each other, I have admired and been encouraged by your faith in God throughout your life, including its trials. This has been more impactful of late, as we walk through our own health related trials with my wife – also named Katharyn – and learn to really fix our eyes and hope on Heaven.
1st Peter 1:3ff:
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
Ryn,
I got to meet you on a FaceTime call when we requested to talk to your parents a few years ago. Our daughter had been diagnosed with A-T and we were struggling. You and your parents helped us so much, and I’ve never forgotten your words of encouragement.
I immediately felt a kindred spirit with you because of your love for Jesus and for Anne of Green Gables! You are wise, gracious, and angelic. Well done, faithful servant of God. You will be missed. God bless your Mom and family.
Hey Ryn, I remember when you and I would go to the pet friends rescue in Hollister and play with the kitties. That was really fun for both of us as well as the kitties. I felt so bad that you couldn’t have your own because of your mom’s allergies but I’m so happy that it was able to be done anyway.
Another wonderful memory I have is when you and your family came to see me in Illinois. It must have been on a follow-up trip to John Hopkins that you were able to stop by on your way home. It was such an honor to have you at my home. Do you remember when the little bird came and sat on your wheelchair? I’m sure I have a picture of that somewhere and when I find it I’ll post it here.
You are such an example of the kind of Christian that Paul writes about in so many of his books. I know the struggle on the inside is very difficult but you manage to show to the world that you are truly full of joy and love for the Lord and trust in Him. I pray that he’ll continue to bless you through the rest of your life here on Earth and oh my the reception you will receive when you get to Glory! Sometime in eternity I hope to maybe ride on a lion like aslan and I’d like you to join me. 😊💕💕💕
I know Joni already post, but here we go.
We first got to know you from Tim and movie Feat. We friended you and your family on FB. Then one our road trip from Iowa to California we made a stop to see you in your home and dinner with you and your family. You were even cooler in person, showing us around and just hanging out a while. I especially love you room with medieval theme and the cool swords and stuff. It was a highlight of our trip to meet the beautiful young lady that had even before we met, changed our world. Because of YOU we met and hosted other A-T families, met Tim and Hunter and formed lifelong bonds with them all. We brought in teams for Triathlons and athletes to Iowa. We made friends from all over, and raised awareness for our cause. You have made an unmistakable impact on the world with ripples that continue beyond what we know. This, without a doubt has paved a path that will change the future lives not only A-T kids and their families and those they touch.
Words cannot express how we feel, or make the pain go away. Know you are loved. We will meet all again in the loving arms of our Lord.
With Love,
Greg, Joni, Paige Danielle and Alexandria Champion
Hi Ryn!
It has been a while since I have been able to see you but I loved visiting you in Wheatland as we were growing up. I loved sharing a birthday party with you, enjoying that trip to Disneyland and many other family memories. Your faith and your life is a testament to God’s love, mercy and plan for every one of His children. I thank God for the time He has given you on this earth and the impact you have made. I look forward to seeing you again whether in this life or the next one. (I also can’t wait to read your book!)
Cathryn,
Your smile. Your continual presence at Grace Bible Church always delighted me.
Thank you for always being so kind and sweet with me and the adventures with Tim Borland really touched my heart!
You are an incredible lady and I am privileged to call you a friend. May the intimacy and understanding of Jesus that you have be eclipsed by what is next for you—
Thank you for letting the light of God shine so brightly through you!
Much luv,
Todd Sinelli
Ryn!
You and your family were the first people we met when Jordan was diagnosed. You and your sweet mama came down and brought a trike that you no longer used and for Jordan to ride. I always remember how loving and kind you all were to us.
Or when we met up at the pumpkin patch, that was a fun trip.
It’s been wonderful to watch you over Facebook with all of your wonderful accomplishments! Great job!
Thank you for sharing life and memories with us. Love you and God bless you
Ryn I did not get to see you often or for long but I distinctly remember your attitude. You were always joyful, cracking jokes, telling stories, and introducing tv shows you liked to our family. Your perseverance and testimony lives on our minds, thank you for being such an example!
Dearest Ryn:
From the moment I heard your story, I knew you were an earth-bound heroic angel that I had to meet; and meeting you was one of the most nodal events in my life. Your faith, strength, love, and passion were like a warm hug to my soul. Whether or not you know, you have been an integral part of my own heart in that I aspire to be as strong and as positive a light in the world that you have been. I am so honored to have been a small part of bringing the community here your story and I feel so blessed that you trusted me to do so. I think of you so often and am filled with a sense of faith that in a crazy world, there are still angels among us. Much love to you, dear friend. ❤
Sweet sweet Cathryn,
AKA: THE BEST HUGGER OF ALL TIME EVER!!!
I met you through your sister, and you soon became one of my favorites. Being your chiropractor was a true joy. Every two weeks I was enamored by your immensely kind spirit, your sarcasm and your textbook perfect hugs. I loved your star wars nerdiness, your ability to make art with blankets and how wonderful conversations with you was. You were the first person I ever treated with AT, and it’s the most insignificant quality about you. It’s not what you had that will always make you a stunning and strong memory of our time together, it is who you are.
I love you so much!
Love, Dr. Trisha
Sweet Cathryn,
The first thing I think of when I hear your name is your Love for Jesus! You are so full of Joy and your smile can light up any room. The Gilson family loves you precious girl and we will see you again in the presence of our Lord and Savior. 🙌🏻🥰
You are such an inspiration to so many people, Ren. I am so excited to read your book!!
Cathryn, Greg and I are so blessed to have gotten to meet you in 2018 and spend the evening with you and your family when we did our road trip out to California. You are such an inspiration to all who know you and a such a beautiful person. ❤️
Cathryn,
Your very existence has impacted me in ways you would never know. It’s been years since I’ve seen you, but I often tell people about your life and how incredible you are. I have always been moved by your tenacity and persistence and I don’t think I ever saw you without a smile. I’m so grateful that I got to know you.
Phil. 3:20-21 But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
21 who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.
Rev. 21:3-4 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.
4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
Praying for comfort for you and your whole family in the coming days, weeks and months.
Cathryn you were always such a bright light and I will never forget meeting you and your family in Disneyland. You inspired Tim to run 63 marathons in 63 days which in return inspired me to take up running for the A-T Cure Team. You have touched so many.
Ryn,
Your sweet spirit and beautiful smile have always brought me joy. I always looked forward to seeing you at our AT Marathons, reading about your latest adventures, and seeing the amazing quilts you would make. Most of all, I see Jesus in you. His Light shines through you for all to see. Thank you for being such an inspiration to us all. We love you so much, and we can’t wait to see you again. 💖
Hello beautiful Ryn,
You don’t know me, but I am a mama whose 4 year old boy has AT! Your story was one of the first I saw when he was diagnosed. You were my first glimpse of hope for James. Your faith inspires me. If it’s gods will for you to go home soon, you run to him! Do not fear your time ending cause your life will just be beginning! You get to meet Jesus!! Thank you for being there for me even know you don’t know how much you were!
Cathryn,
What a blessing it is that our families shared the time together that we did in Hollister! You’re a light to all that know you! I know many years have passed, but the first thing that comes to mind for me is your creativity! What a gift you have! You spark so much joy in the things that you create! The Lord has always done amazing things through you! I’m sending all my love and prayers!
My sweet Ryn,
My funny, sweet, precious friend. I am so glad God brought you and your Mom into my life. I have missed you so much since we moved to Missouri. You were my inspiration to keep going and not give up on the worst of my migraine days. I kept thinking if Ryn can do it, live her ‘best’ life while having AT, then I can too.
I loved laughing with you. You always cracked me up. Your sense of humor is contagious. I knew we were laugh soul mates when at Womens Bible study one night you needed a kleenex. The box was next to me so I picked it up and said ‘Catch’ and acted like I was going to throw it to you. You laughed! Yup. You were destined to be my laugh buddy from then on.
I loved hanging out with you and your mom. Going to Quilt group, having our Bible Studies, just the 3 of us. I loved giving your cute toes pedicures.
No doubt I am going to love you forever. I am glad we will have eternity together. I am sad that you are beating me to Heaven but I can’t wait to see you dance and sing and hear that laugh again. And of course, get one of those tight Cathryn hugs!
Love, just me…Susie B
Run, we have never met in.person but I have admired your quilts for years. I used to make quilts but haven’t for 25 years. I have often wished we lived close to each other so we could quilt together. You are a very talented you.g lady and I enjoy knowing you from a distance.
Ryn,
I vividly remember watching
you dance to music during one of the Hollister 4th of July parades. You seemed so bright and full of life. Of course, no one knew that just a few months later you would be diagnosed with a disabling disease. Even though the newly diagnosed condition was devastating to your family, your response was one of acceptance, still looking to possibilities to serve others.
You have always inspired me by what you have accomplished despite your limitations. My heart grieves for your family, but rejoices that you will be soon with our Savior and free of this disease. ❤️
I love you Ryn!! I’ve always been touched by your joy and creativity, and your smile. I’m thankful to have gotten to know you. Sending a big, gentle hug. Praying for you.
Ryn- we loved meeting you at Disneyland. Your beauty inside and out has touched so many. Thank you for sharing your light with the world.
Much love, Maggie, Mike, Wyatt and Nora Watson
